Fall Favorites & Turning Into Dad ~ Chicago Proposal Photographer

There are many things I love about fall… really… a LOT... scarves, boots, jeans, cozy sweaters, crunchy leaves under your feet, pumpkin flavored everything, my birthday, the smell of bonfires in the air, crisp apples right off the tree…

But I think my favorite thing about fall is - football.

I could have football on TV 24/7 and I would be a happy girl!! There is just something about eating comfort food, drinking a cold beer, and cheering on your team, isn’t there?! I think my mom may have programmed this into our blood as young kids because the only days we got junk food and a glass of soda (from a 2 liter bottle) was on Packer game days – so how could you not look forward to game day?! Many snacks in our house are still known as “Packer snacks.”:)

So it was a natural transition to become Badger football obsessed as well when my older sister and brother attended UW, and even more so when I became a Badger myself! However, given that we’re wedding photographers – it is pretty obvious that if we are booked every weekend in the fall… then we don’t get to watch a single Badger game. So I take what I can get in recaps, and try to schedule the rest of my calendar around Packer games at least!:)

Since I miss all the Badger games, I do my best to wear my UW sweatshirt around the house as much as humanly possible during the fall to make sure nobody forgets what team I’m on though! It’s just so cozy, worn in (James like to call it something else), and perfect for the chilly nights with the windows open! I had it on last night as we packed to head up to Wisconsin for a weekend of weddings when I realized something though… I may be turning into my dad.

You see, my dad has all this Marquette gear (his alma mater) that he wears until it no longer even looks like the piece of clothing that it used to… Sweatshirts and sweatpants that resemble rags more than they do clothing. And we all give him a hard time about it… why can’t he just replace those old sweats?! That is until I realized I do the exact same thing! I have a pair of Badger sweatpants my best friend from college gave me for my birthday that I’m obsessed with. They are oversized, have the butt worn in just right, and are oh so comfortable. (And James hates them… haha!) The same holds true for my beloved sweatshirt. I’m pretty sure I’ve had it for going on 11 or 12 years… but I just can’t part with it! It is so cozy, and reminds me of the good old days in Madison – celebrating on game day with my roommates! Maybe some day I’ll get up the guts to toss it in the trash… but for now… I’m going to lounge around in this old thing until it completely falls apart!

Please tell me I’m not alone… you all have some raggedy old clothing you keep for sentimental value… don’t you?! (Please say yes!):)And what teams are you all cheering for this fall?!:)

karen - Loooooove me some football!! I am a die hard San Francisco 49ers fan, through good times and bad, and am totally with you…I could have football on 24/7 and be totally content. :) And I totally have a drawer full of some raggedy shirts from the past that I just can’t part with…rarely wear them, but I take comfort in the fact they are there for those days where I just need them. :) Happy Friday!

Emilia Jane - Girl you know I’ll wear my Indiana sweatshirt until the fabric completely disintegrates! haha

Becky - I absolutely do! I still wear a lot of Cougar gear too. I think I may be resembling your dad too. haha. Don’t throw away those sentimental pieces! When they are a complete loss, go on pinterest and find something else to make them into. A quilt with the logos would be SUPER cute!

Tabitha - I JUST got rid of my ragged UW sweatshirt this spring. The cuffs looked exactly like yours. {Sigh} But, I’m at least one year ahead of you so you still have at least one more year, right? :-)

Laci - I still wear the Badger sweatshirt I bought at Steve and Barry’s my first day on campus…in 2001. One arm is missing a sleeve, the hood is falling off, but I wear it almost daily in the winter.

Ann Oleinik - Treat yourself to a new sweatshirt! You deserve it! ;)

Lauren (PB&G) - Completely worn-in sweatshirts that have holes in them are perfectly acceptable to keep around the house. As are sweatpants (as long as the elastic holds out.. I just had to ditch a pair that the elastic was old and squeaky sounding..) Rock those oldies!

Amanda Miller - The perfectly worn is stuff is the comfiest! As long as you don’t start wearing it to meetings and such, haha.

Leah - We recently moved and I finally gave up on some old Indiana University t-shirts I got my freshman year (ahem…15 years ago). They had holes all over the back of them, so much so that I wouldn’t have been much longer till they were just a front :) .

And we are a huge football house. Our 2.5 year old daughter thinks the TV only shows football games because it’s basically the only time it’s on with her around. On non-game days she’ll say, “But I want to watch football.” I have her trained well.

Also…Go Bears! :)

Lauren Wakefield - Oh god…I have these green sweat pants that were from my dad’s high school. I mean literally belonged to my dad. They elastic is completely gone but I love them more than anything. I gave them up when Gary came into my life (you know…during the honeymoon phase)…but I have been sporting those bad boys while he’s gone. :) Oh…and GO COLTS!!!!!

Megan - Ha ha! That is so true about your dad!! I remember him coming to play rehearsals in that ratty old Marquette sweatshirt! But, I’m just as guilty myself – I just threw out a pair of old Cougar volleyball shorts this week and I still have the UWGB sweatshirt I bought my first week of school there 11 years ago :)

John Brandl - All invented, I think. The fashion police never let me do that.
